    Fuel issues

By the way, Should I add something with the diesel? Someone mentioned this is caused by modern diesel not having the same composition as it did in the 80's. I added a little bottle of yellow liquid carb/injector cleaner. Is this what I should be adding every time? Thanks

Thanks, runs well... The pump was most likely having issues long before it died. The shifting is smoother, and fuel efficiency increased.

Thanks, I got the dowel pin in the correct hole and all the bolts installed. Everything is put back together. How do I bleed the injectors? Up to this point to prime I just crack the bleed screw on the fuel filter and crank with the pink wire off the IP and gas cap off until diesel runs out...

Thanks cucvrus and mad texan. I did not realize you can pull that round gasket that the oil fill tube goes into so I couldnt see into the hole at all and I stuck the dowel pin on the IP into one of the bolt holes. Hence things not lining up. So I have to do it all again. (I'm back and forth...

    Fuel issues

Hi, I removed and replaced the pump all injectors and external connections are back as is the air intake. The last thing is those three bolts... can't figure that out. Any help? I rotate the engine till i can stick an allen key down a hole, all I get is a very rough cross-thread on my bolt, and...

Does anybody know how to get the vent tube off on the fill hole side? When I look at it from below I can't see any clamp on the hose. Best, Ned

    Fuel issues

Thanks! Yesterday I took down the fuel tank. The "sock" inside the tank looked just fine. Today I am hoping to get it back up and by tomorrow have all the fuel lines replaced and primed. When the pump comes (probably this Friday?) the IP swap will be the order of the day. I bought a reman IP...

Thanks, are all these fuel lines 5/16"? Secure with a tiny hose clamp? Looks like you got the box off. Did you do that for the tank job? By the way-- took a look at the gram, hoping to get mine looking and functioning something like that someday!

I will check the timing mark how do I identify it and where on the engine is it? Thanks, Ned

    Fuel issues

Hi Keith, This truck has 31,000 miles. I don't hear any metal on metal though the belts do fly around like mad and the engine shakes something terrible. Not noticeable in terms of driving performance just loud. I think you are advising another diagnostic that should be done before the IP swap...

    Fuel issues

I will look at the check valve tomorrow. Is the IP replacement in any of the TM's? The filling up issue is a clogged vent tube. I am removing the tank and will confirm. (If the fuel system is primed the engine would run normally even with both fill and vent tube stopped up)

    Fuel issues

I ordered a pump Thanks, I have not tried the diagnosis of the lift pump yet. However every time I prime the system (crank with the pink cable disconnected from the IP, the cap off the tank, and the vent plug on the fuel filter mount loosened) I get fuel squirting out of the 'vent plug port'...

    Fuel issues

Awesome! On my M1010 one of those 8 bolts is obstructed. Only way I see to get to this bolt is take a sort of flange off. Not sure what my actual question was..... just checking if somebody has the same situation so I feel better about buying a 3/4" wrench to stick into the gap to hold the nut...

Thanks for your reply. Based on my looking around there does not appear to have been any mechanical parts replaced. Thanks, Ned

    Fuel issues

By the way, I am also interested in taking the tank off anyway. There are 4 bolts to take off the support brackets. One of these bolts is obscured, and it seems like the only way to get it off is to remove a bit of plate held onto the frame by two big 3/4 inch bolts with nuts. Is that familiar...

All right, thanks. I guess maybe I just have to prime with the hose in there.

Thanks, this is an excellent manual. Waiting till I can get my printer working so I can have a version that won't run out of battery.

    Fuel issues

Hi Recovry4x4 I was interested in using the auxiliary fuel pickup, and because you said a metal pipe with a rubber cap I was pretty sure I knew what you were talking about. However, the line that I was thinking of, which comes right from the top middle of the tank, along with the other two...
