Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

some more pics of my RC car project. I got the front end finished with all the lighting installed. Got the body mounted on a vintage RC humvee chassis.

Got my RC 1008 front end painted and installed. The headlights are functional but I only installed one LED so far.

I will check on it, but the flex plate is brand new and torqued to spec with loctite. I also do not hear any ticking from the bell housing through the stethoscope.

Unrelated but I just wanted to share some pictures from another project of mine. I’m working on making a M1008 RC truck. Spent some time today designing the grill in CAD and 3D printing it. For the body I’m using the one from the Tamiya Clod Buster monster truck.

Just found this video on YouTube. Things sounds mean with no mufflers :LOL::LOL: Here's another video of a guy who had the same exact sound I'm having In the comments he said it ate a glow plug or a bolt and rebuilt the motor. " Its been fixed, had piston slap on the number 5...

Yeah I will look into that. I haven’t bought anything yet as I’m still recovering from all the money I already spent lol. I’m also kinda taking a short break before jumping back in. I’m just happy to finally be home after 2 months and I’m spending time with family and my dog and getting back...

It’s been fun and educational. I’m a better man for this experience that’s for sure. Now I just gotta figure out the tapping problem. As far as money saved. Here is a excerpt from an email I received from a certain company everyone on here probably knows. Very famous for working on cucvs and...

Which was the $75 one you were talking about?

Yeah that’s the Kent Moore tool. It’s probably the official one that’s used in the TMs. I was asking if you think I should get that or get a kit that has a bunch of different glow plug/injector fittings to be used on other vehicles. But I’m probably only gonna be working on 6.2s anyway so...

Should I get one of these @ezgn ? Or should I get some kit I’ll be able to use with other cars in the future? Not sure. Lemme know what you recommend.

I don’t really think it’s the exhaust but I’m going to check it closely before moving forward on the valve train. I think the noise I’m hearing on the right side pipe is just the valve noise being amplified down the line. On the header/manifold area I hear just a light whistling clicking sound...

I’m just kinda pissed over this whole thing.. morale is low right now. I’ll look into ordering a compression test kit. Thanks man.

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Not really, tbh. I didn’t really have any reason to suspect anything was wrong at the time because the truck sounded perfect even before I started working on it. This is my first time working on these and I didn’t really have the foresight to check closely and no one advised me on that back...

It was actually super easy to loosen the 3 bolts with a ratcheting box wrench. I adjusted the timing in both directions about a mark or two and it made no difference in the knocking unfortunately. https://streamable.com/aouoos

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

No I have not messed with it. I set it right on the line and left it alone. Truck was running perfect for ~1000 miles when the noise started. Will I be able to get to the 3 bolts holding the IP with the intake manifold on? The guy who did the pump told me he always turns them up a little...

Here’s some clips from earlier. Let me know if you have any ideas. https://streamable.com/k46fiw https://streamable.com/cs7lfr My local Napa has the liqui moly diesel purge in stock and I was thinking about trying it out, but for best results you need to run the motor off the can of the stuff...

Well it seems it was all wishful thinking and hoping 😞 The tapping is still there after installing a complete set of new injectors. Seems quieter but still there. I guess I’ll have to keep messing with it. I was told it could be a collapsed lifter but the truck was perfect snd it started out...

Well good news guys, I think the problem is fixed. I just did the two rear injectors on the left side (5&7) and the hammer tapping sound seems to be gone. I didn’t run it too long so the motor wouldn’t get too hot. I’m about to change 6&8 now also for good measure. I don’t really care to...
