The DOT approved hose is usually either black or green. Sometimes it is yellow or blue but never clear. Here is a picture which shows how the line is made up. Cut the hose as square as possible, then insert the jam nut then the brass ferrule. Insert this into the fitting (all the way in) which...- rustystud

That's one reason I just replaced all the hoses with 3/8" Poly hose (DOT air line ) . A whole lot cheaper and parts everywhere.- rustystud
