    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Could you give us a drawing ? I'm having a hard time trying to wrap my head around this idea. Words are great but pictures and drawings are better ! Thanks.

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

This weekend I finished my tailgate assist system. It closes great ! Just one hand easily closes the tailgate. The one issue it has, is it will not go down far enough. It needs weaker springs. The problem is these where the weakest ones I could find in this style. I suppose I could eliminate one...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

I was thinking about that also since I own several air cylinders that would handle this job. I just need to know if the basic concept is sound before I start cutting up my truck. I also own a tailgate lift pump system that would work, though it is 12 volts instead of 24 volt. I have all the...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

No comments from any engineers ? I was hoping someone could give me an answer about these ideas, could they actually work ?

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

I just used a heavy grease on mine. Since there is no seals to keep the grease in having a "zerk" fitting to replenish the old grease might be a good idea. I almost did for mine but since I'm still in the modification stage I thought I would wait and see. I also went with "stainless steel" pins...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Here's a couple of diagrams I came up with to make a Hydraulic ram system for opening and closing the tailgate. Maybe some of you engineers out there can look at this and tell me if it would work ? The first two are of the same design. The first shows the tailgate in the up position and the...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

That's great news ! Maybe we can really come up with a totally workable solution ! I did buy a left and right spring. I just need more materials before I can install the right side.

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Maybe you can help me find some proper springs. I looked for over a week on the net to find something that would come close to working. I don't know springs like you do so a little help would be much appreciated. :D

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

I looked long and hard at the "Gorilla" springs. I just could not figure out a easy way to mount them to the tailgate without a lot of fabrication. If you have a good way to mount it I would love to see it. I know my idea is not the "end all be all" answer, but for now it is working. Later when...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

I just viewed "TwistedOaks" post again. Man I wished I had seen that before starting this project !!!! I like his idea of "cutting" the tailgate flange instead of bending it up like I did. I will go back and cut mine off now too. I see he didn't use any kind of spring bushing though. I found...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Yes, I believe over time it might wear a hole through the metal. But since I don't open and close my tailgate all the time it will take years for this to happen. I'll probably be dead by then.

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

No but after viewing it, it would have saved me a lot of work if I had known ! I was referring to a much older post. Wow, basically we came up with the same idea ! I wonder if he had a few earlier mishaps like I did. Here's the part numbers and where I bought my springs. It's from Trailer...

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Thanks Chris. I suppose it would work on the sides also. Though they are much heavier you might need three or four springs instead of just the two. I'll post the part numbers of the springs and where I bought them later.

    Deuce Tailgate Assist

Over the years people have tried to figure out a simple and cheap way to help lift the Deuce's rear tailgate. A few years ago some said "why can't we use springs to help assist it". The idea got shot down because some said it would not allow the tailgate to fully open. At the time I was still...
