    Tom's Overdrive kit

I never said anything about Gerhards drawings. What I am saying is he has been a little testy towards me lately (just take into consideration all the comments he has made on my posts lately) . I told him to research this and I mean that. There has been tremendous advancements in driveline...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Really ?!?!? Were going down that road are we ? Well if you knew what you where talking about you would see that my numbers are correct. Just for grins and giggles, why don't you go out and measure your "rear" driveline. That's the one between the axles. You know the one that takes the "most"...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Really Gerhard you need to research this. There are extra long splined drivelines that will compensate for any articulation. Just look at what the boys are doing over at "Pirates 4X4" sometime. Also the Rockwell input is not moving all that radically compared to the outer wheels. It is staying...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Actually Tom that's not true. You can put the "Brownie Box" after the transfer-case as long as you realize you cannot use the front axle in any overdrive gear. I've seen several people who have done it quite successfully including several here at Steel Soldiers. If you utilize the transfer-cases...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

I've seen several installations of a three speed overdrive in a deuce. Non will allow the front axle to be engaged, but as long as you remember that, I feel this is a good way to go.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Hey Tom. I still cannot find a vender that sells the "loose cylindrical bearings" that fit into the main input gear. Who did you use ? Also do you have any modified main shafts left ? I still need two for my projects. Thanks Tom.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Spicer 6000 series if you can find a good one. There are three speed and four speed units out there.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Don't kick yourself to bad. I didn't get into the deuces until years after all the cheap ones sold out ! They used to sell for under $500.00 !!!! Running !!!! What really fries my bacon though is there used to be this old hermit guy in Chehalis WA. that had acres of old M135 trucks and parts. He...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Something like a "double row" of bearings ? I suppose it could be done, but the chances of them "cocking" in the bore would be something you would have to address. Since they are not held in a cage and can move around a bit that could happen.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Not right now, but it will soon. I came up with a pretty good system I believe and the machine shop just finished the last parts for me. So we will see.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Thanks Gerhard. By the way, do you know where I can buy the "loose cylindrical bearings" for the input gear at ? I've found some suppliers that have the diameter (0.312" ) but not the length ( 0.620" ) . Thanks.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Hey Tom. You took your website down so fast I was unable to download the instructions for the second gear modification. Can you or someone else post that picture ? Thanks.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Talked with Tom today. Yep their all gone ! He told me he lost over $100.00 on each kit he sold. Now if anyone wants to make up more kits they will cost well over $2000.00 each ! Minimum order at the gear shop was 30 units. That is going to be hard to come up with that kind of money and then try...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Rats ! I was hoping to buy one more for me ! I should have keep my mouth shut until I had bought both of them. It is sad too. This is a great kit and even if you could have a friendly machine shop do the work it would cost way over what he was selling them for. I did warn you guys though. I...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Maybe your right. I guess people aren't as interested in the deuce as they where before.

    Tom's Overdrive kit

I talked with Tom again and no one has ordered any kits since mine. You guys do realize once he retires there will never be any more right ? I'm buying one more just to have on hand. I don't want to be the guy a few years from now that says "boy I wished I had bought one of those kits, now it's...

    Tom's Overdrive kit

Hello all. Well I finally pulled the trigger and bought "Tom's Overdrive Kit". It came the other day and all I have to say is WOW !!! This is one nice kit! I spent most of my 40 plus years working on trucks as a "gear man" . Transmissions, differentials, transfer-cases and auxiliary drives. In...
