Do you want to totally remove it ? Or just disconnect it for a while ?

Before anyone says all those oils where for "On-Highway" use , well the AT500 series transmission is an On-Highway transmission. All "off-road" vehicles are graders and dozers and loaders and such.

For everyone else's edification I have posted all the "Allison" approved fluids and manufactures. Note there is not one that lists any engine oil. There is a reason for this. Modern engine oils are not the same as they where back in the 1970's and 1980's when the C-4 classification was in...

Again your misrepresenting the facts. That MO is OLD ! There is no longer any engine oil that is cleared by Allison. It is obsolete. You finally mentioned that the engine oil was to be used "off-road" only. After I called you on it. As to getting upset about anyone correcting me, if you have...

First off, why make it personal ? I'm coming to this bringing information straight from Allison. I have actually worked for Allison. I have all the Allison manuals for this transmission and many other transmissions I have actually rebuilt. I have been giving you the "Facts" all along and you...

Now about Hydraulic oil. It must be able to reach temperatures of 250F and maintain that. Engine oil on the other hand has always been run at 10 (F) to 15 (F) above coolant temperature, which means about 212 degrees (F). So who ever told you Hydraulic oil is a lower temperature oil is wrong. Now...

This guy is from a wedsite not "Allison". Maybe he did work at one time on the SAE oil committee, that still does not have anything to do with the ON road Allison 1500 series used in the M35A3. I do know about the 9000 series off road transmissions used in Dozers and such and also about the...

I stand by all the transmissions I repaired or rebuilt. As far as your continuing support of the military's use of engine oil I have nothing to say. You will never listen to reason or logic. I've supported all my statements with documentation before but you refuse to listen. Hydraulic oil will...

I agree. You will have a difficult time getting the oil out of the clutch plates. You can try and wean your transmission off the engine oil, but if it's working now then leave it alone. By the way I worked at Allison in Phoenix AZ. in the transmission department. So I guess that makes me an...

The Allison transmissions forward hub must be completely stopped before you can engage the PTO. To do this you must have it in gear and stopped. Then try and engage the PTO. After engaging the PTO put the transmission in Neutral. When the hydraulic pump is finally working you will hear it...

Sadly there isn't one. This doesn't come up in the civilian world as they all use ATF in the transmissions. I have seen it though since I have dealt with it in the Marines and in warranty work at "Allison" . The problem is the clutch discs themselves. They are actually made of organic fibers (...

I would. I served my apprenticeship at Neils Detroit Diesel working on Allison transmissions. I know this particular transmission very well. The only problem you could have is since it has been running this heavier oil is the damage to the clutch discs. Now if you go to the original oil you...

The transmission will use "ATF" Dexron and the transfer case will use 80/90w gear oil. Some people have gotten away with using Hydraulic oil ( 15w) in the transmission but Allison recommends "Dexron III " or better in this transmission.
