    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

My regular tyre guy - brick n mortar location, recommended him as he didn't want to mess with "that old stuff"...!

Yeah..... tough work. I found a great local guy with a big mobile set up and a load of the "old tyme" tools who was ok with breaking them down for me. Came back a couple of weeks later to mount all the new tyres n flaps after I'd blasted and painted the rims.

Not Bii, but are part of the operators instructions.. "stored in the front locker" or similar words to that effect. I guess chocs are not on the A1's Bii as they have spring brakes, also why is it only the 'O' has a pry bar!

OK C-B, time to fess up/catch up/update etc. I have found an A1 (that FuzzyT decided to sell). So, have been rereading threads etc. The deck board clips - what was your source for these? and did you ever look closer at the rear outriggers for fabn details? I could work from the hole, but...

Well maybe when you get your up armoured D9 you can take that for a less "embarrassing" ride!

I noticed that too - a little crude though, running chains over bodywork edges rather than dedicated "D" rings etc. "MIND THE PAINT". You would have thought that the build specs for the trailer would have catered for all the expected loads! I do however consider the covered wheels of the A1 (&...

CB - I just came across this TM ( loading a Cat D8K on to an M870 ), it doesn't appear to be complete (fig 1, 2, 4, 5 & 6 are missing), but it's worth a look.. http://www.combatindex.com/store/tech_man/Sample/Const_Dozer/TM_55-2410-234-14.pdf It's interesting how they suggest running the tie...

M870 x 4 auction Augusta ME, May '15 (CLOSED) Noticeable when you throw on a couple of perspective lines and the "horizon". Same quote on all four.... Description:M870 Semi Trailer, Low Bed, 40 ton, Construction Equipment Transporter. 13 tires, 10.00 x R15. Lock and hinge pin holes oblong...

Nope John - didn't get any model - just googled for pics of M931 and M870 then followed the pic source.

    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

Only pics I could find of 870s on 931s were of models - I know the model boys like to be real accurate, but I am curious why there are no pics of the real combination... Fifth wheels in pics of real 931s definitely look "civi" in height though, much lower than a 916.

Thanks. I can do fractions (if I have to) and mm!!! Did you notice the droop on the gooseneck of the A1? I guess it was that one that the GL guy inspected for write up on and just copied it for the other three. "pivot pins oval" etc. Not sure which one gets used more, 3 1/2" for the 916 or 2"...

    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

CB any chance you could reverse engineer one of them into a dimensioned drawing? I missed out on the four trailers that went in ME this week (3 A0's & 1 A1) - even though they were listed as scrap, with no registrable paperwork, the prices went crazy right at the 5pm close - a couple kept...

    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

This is a nice mod, though I think I may have gone with rounded/smooth treads, certainly for the top one - potential hand grips maybe (subject to owners stature!). NB A2's went to some kind of slotted ladder setup on the gooseneck. A2 pic added at bottom of post. They'll look great once...

    M870A1 Acquisition Thread

I was going to comment on the winch loading 'till I reread John's comment - I missed the "well" on first reading... BUT anywho... I couldn't find the TM in the 'Technical Manual' section of the forum. TM 5-2330-378-14&P - did find it online a while ago but I don't have good enough internet to...
