1031 manual governor ?

There seems to be a lot of problems involved with the electronic governor system. Those of you who have fully functioning 1031 generators, are they fine once sorted out? Or is the gov control system always a weak point? I have looked into installing a belt driven flyball governor (Pierce Long Range). I would use a Vermere style hand throttle, a tachometer(I just bought a Tiny Tach). Wind the engine to 1800 rpm, governor would control load modulation. Considering a electronic clutch to disengage governor when driving truck. Any useful comments appreciated.
