1954 M37 Dodge Gun Truck Ammo Box Questions

Just bought another 1954 M37 Dodge truck and had what the previous owner called a gun truck ammo box? any info would be appreciated. Have attached pictures and the box stretches across the bed, has to be made for military by construction but no labels or tags on it except prainted over No Smoking stickers on each end

No clue what it was for but it’s definitely made out of a very cut up M100 trailer.

The box is just sitting in the back of the M37 truck, everything else in the bed was what came with the truck

Definitely a fabricated box, whether it was done in the military or not, who knows, but I guess it makes for a unique item to get with the truck.

Does it have any openings or hinged covers or ???

Definitely made from a 1/4 ton trailer either M100 or M416. As was said above who knows if it was made by a unit or a civilian.

The whole top flips up like a truck tool box with a way to lock it thanks

It was a great little extra that came with the truck, the previous owner said he was offered 1k dollars for it? but would have no clue how anyone would have come up with a value?
