1971 Military Dump truck, Model M817, 6x6, 5 ton. Manufactured by AM General. 36,521 original miles, 1,790 original hours. 250 Cummins diesel engine, 5 speed manual transmission, 2 speed transfer case. No computer, turbo, or automatic trans to give a rancher trouble. Tires are (NOS) Michelin XZL’s on super single wheels with 98% tread remaining. Original metal hardtop for the cab. Comes with 2 sets (4) of properly sized snow chains. The dump bed raises to almost vertical, and has double hydraulic cylinders for strength. The tailgate of the bed can be operated in three different configurations. The truck is rated to carry a 5-ton load over rough terrain, 10-ton load on the highway, but these figures are reviewed as underestimates of capability.
The truck has historic license plates (California), registration is current, and title is in hand.
I have used this truck over the last 3 years in rough country, hauling dirt and granite boulders. It does not overheat, and it starts easily when snow is on the hood. This is the 2nd of this model of truck I have had and they have proved reliable, easy to maintain when far away from a town-mechanic given their lack of modern computers, and is the perfect size/height to load with a full sized backhoe/loader. Batteries and and charging system are in good condition. Oil pressure, air pressure, all in good condition. Air over hydraulic brakes are in good working condition. The wheel/tire’s have new valve stems and o-rings and do not leak.
It needs a replacement drivers seat pad, and the fuel tank selector switch repaired (I currently just run off the drivers side tank). The passenger side tank (not currently in use) has a leak in one of the fittings. Tail/brake lights need to be trouble-shooted. Spacer on transmission PTO would benefit from being changed out to different size (for transmission shifting smoothness). The battery box is the only place on the truck with rust, it still functions fine but for cosmetics it could be replaced with an easily obtained bolt-in item. The engine has small oil leak. The horn and windshield wipers need to be repaired, if using them is desired.
This truck will need to be transported by big-rig to your location. Buyer is responsible for Arranging transportation and Paying for transportation. At my location there is no loading dock/ramp. While I can easily drive the truck onto the trailer, it would need to be a trailer such as a low-boy, ramps, etc. Empty weight of the truck is approximately 25,000 LBs.
$11,000 via cash, cashiers check overnight-ed, or bank wire. No trades.
