hi folks.
I read this thread, but it diverged into image file size.

Has anyone solved the 2” receiver hitch onto the extendable hitch problem?

@Third From Texas did you come up with a suitable solution? I had the same concern about the leverage underneath when it’s extended.

Nope

I hit the same snag with being able to brace it while extended (w/o welding the whole thing up in the extended position).
I can make it work, but I'd lose the ability to retract the pintle.

I thought about modifying the OEM pintle to slide all the way out to be completely removed.
Then make another insert with the 2" receiver.
But as heavy as the OEM pintle is, there's no way I could swap them out alone in the field (I bet that thing is 100#'s).

In the end, I see three solutions:

1) Make the OEM pintle permanently in the extended position. I don't really see any downside.
And it opens up all sorts of ways to attach a receiver hitch below the pintle.

2) Go the way of dual 2" receivers mounted to the lower bumper frame.
*and this is my current preference because I love the step idea here

3) Go with something like <insert point of compass military scalpers> sells only self-fabbed or from a local fab shop for about $400 cheaper than <insert point of compass military scalpers>. It's not a "bad" design, but IMO it's only viable when the pintle is fully retracted (which isn't a deal breaker).

Option 4?
Remove pintle and make a replacement with 2” receiver

Since I’m converting this truck to a camper. I keep trying to think of a situation where I’d use the pintle.
I need to keep the option for reasons.

And with the rear entry, I could put a step (incorporated into the 2" hitch) to use when the ladder is stowed (handy-af for Home Depot runs, etc)

Haven't gotten around to it, but I don't see any reason not to use a design similar, but use that sandwich plate as the main strength element. Make it 1/2" or greater, put gussets in the right locations. Get longer bolts. Done deal.
