2016 Olympic Flight Museum Air Show - 18-19 June

The annual Olympic Flight Museum Airshow is coming up, Father's Day weekend, 18-19 June. It is primarily a military aircraft based show and will have some historic Military Vehicles on display as well. Unfortunately ground space is at a premium, due to a couple of endangered species, so we can't do and open MV call for this one. It is still fun and if you are interested in vintage military aircraft, this is one of the places to be this summer. P

Wow so just a few MV's this year?

The military show is wide open, but the airshow, their first priority is aircraft. We are relegated to a narrow strip of grass along side the main hangar. It is mostly populated with the displays of the Friends of Willie and Joe, WW2 history group. But we may try to crash it with some Desert Storm this year. Different government agencies have restricted most of the field to using only the paved areas, due to endangered species regulations. It is funny, they won't let the crowds or displays out there, yet they mow it on routine basis. Hope one of the little critters doesn't stick it head up at the wrong time.

Sounds similar to the Chino Air Show in So Cal. Chino airport has an endangered Burrowing Owl so a large part of the ramp infield is now closed off, and the MV folks are making do with a smaller area. I noticed several owls were poking their heads up when the air museums Sherman tank rolled by. Probably thought it was another California earthquake.

Well we wondered where all the spotted owls went when we cut down all their trees. We have Mazama Pocket gophers. They really enjoy french fries and now their diet is being restricted.

Wanted to kick this up. The 1SG and I will go clean the area and mow the grass on Wednesday. Hope to also set up the Lg. Wall tent so we have some under cover display area too. Looks like the Desert Storm display is shaping up with an M151A2, M923, M923A1, and an M813, plus the tent display stuff. The rest of the area will be filled out with the WW2 display folks.

OFM airshow

Mission accomplished. had about a dozen people and 8 vehicles. Had a GP, MB, CCKW, M813, M923, M923A1, and two M151A2's. We slept in WW2 tents and ate at the field mess, cooked off Model 1937 field stoves out of the back of a 1943 CCKW.
