hello everyone, i want to convert the 24v system to 12v on my m1028. i recently rebuilt the starter and the only difrence is the solenoid has a smaller guage wire for the windings. im looking for information about the alternators and the glowplug system .can this be done without getting into alot of problems? 12v system would benifet me as to the winch, trailer brakes and aux power to trailer elec/hyd pump. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link to the roscommon conversion.

FWIW you will gain little from the conversion. All of the reasons you want to convert you can do with the truck as is. In it's factory format it is a dual voltage truck.

The solenoid is not the only difference in your starter. You will need a whole new 12v starter, the starter on it now is wound for 24v and will not work on 12v.

That said, your front battery is its own little 12v system. You can run all your 12v accessories from it with no problems. So for everything your said you need it for, you really don't need to convert. Draw your power from the front battery and go.
