I'm sure this has been covered a few hundred times but I can't figure it out. I recovered my 5 ton from Jeff City MO and need to fill out the SF97. I wanted to check the vin number on the frame and I'm not sure whats is what.

The data plate shows the FSN as 2320-00-050-8984 ( 2320000508984 ). The Identification no. is 0245-10109 ( 024510109 ). This does not match the frame numbers at all.

I found numbers on both sides of the frame. On the drivers side just behind the cover for the steering box is 116643421 with a circle around an S. the next row is 607704561. On the passenger side is 116643411 with a circle around an S the next row is 607703561. All number run vertical.

Any ideas on what I should use for the vin number?

You may want to check that first character, it's probably a C not a 0.

The other numbers are probably frame build numbers or part numbers.

Here's your truck:

Organization:1138
1138TH TC CO MDM TRK CARGO
Location:JEFFERSON
MISSOURI
Nomenclature:
TRUCK TRACTOR 5-TON Model:
M818 NSN:
2320000508984 Serial Number:
C24510109 Registration Number:
Year of Mfg:
1971

Usage Miles: 269
April 09

With only 269 miles, this appears to be a little used truck or a recent rebuild.

Note, I'm not showing a registration number for it. I'm assuming it was forgotten during the database update. No biggie, it is of no use in registering or titling the vehicle. It's more for nostalgia.

Thanks to Carnac:

My registration number does start with a C. I would say the tractor is a rebuild as it does have some wear and tear but is in good shape. The tires show some use but you can still see the parting line in the middle. The seats have been recovered and a repaint with carc tan.

I would guess it was going to another location with that paint choice but didn't get called to that duty.

I will take some time but its main use will be to haul other equipment to local shows. I'm going to look for a compatible trailer for this task next.

Carnac thanks again for your clarification and a donation will be sent to your posted choice.

Tankersdad I will post some pictures later after I figure out more ways to work this site and my camera.

Thanks but understand the C######### is the vin/serial number. The registration number is the other one. The reg # doesn't matter in titling, the serial number is your vin.

Please, there's a forum for this entitled 2009 VIN Info thread. Please place all vin requests there.

This started off as something else but frankly I should have had this one moved there before giving the information that I did.

I do this since I normally only have limited time to come in, answer the questions and punch out. Having one place to go speeds up the process if I don't have much time.

Thanks
