I saw a 5 ton logging truck that had steering brakes on the rear axle. Was this a option or a after military installation? It was a real professional installation military or otherwise.

5 TON with steering brakes

The 10 ton cargo has it, kind of like a farm tractor. You can steer it with the front wheels in the air, braking one side or the other of the bogie.
I separated my rear brake lines for that same purpose, but never completed the project. Did that as a result of poor steering ability in the mud with duals. The situation was greatly improved when I switched to singles and the project was put on the "shelf".
