I have the chance to pick up a 1988 F700 with 12,000 original miles on the od for way cheap. It has a turbo about the size of my deuces whistler. What I am wondering is once I figure out if I have a 6.6 or 7.8 is it a decent a swap. It has a 5 speed hooked to it already. And can I use the power steering off of it? The box mounts outside the frame but it is power.

If it is a 6.6 170 hp 170 hp @ 2600 rpm, 402 lb/ft tq @ 1600 rpm
If it it a 7.8 225 hp 225 hp @ 2400 rpm, 593 lb/ft tq @ 1500 rpm

I'll get some pictures in a couple of days. I'll have to drive back out to where it currently is rotting away. Also my RDS2500 Alison trans will bolt right to and give me a 6 speed automatic with overdrive.

well the 6.6 doesnt sound worth a swap as it is not much more power or torque .you can get that kind of power from just turning up the fuel a little on the multi fuel..the 7.8 is a good imporvement in power andd torque but unless you are putting bigger tires or high od in it you will lose a decent amount of top speed. just a couple of things to think about.the 7.8 would probably be awsome with some 15.5s on there

Problem with most of the older ones is the lack of intercooler. You can make pretty big power from the 6.6 or 7.8, but they get hot real fast. The stock turbo is pretty small. Overall, they are great little engines. I've been eyeballing a 1992 6.6 to swap in my pickup.8)

I am giong to pass on this one for now. It's a 6.6. There just ins't enough time to get it done with all the other projects I have to do before I move and deploy again. If it's still there when I get back home after this set of orders maybe then.
