Air compressor info

Does anyone know if the M35A2 series air compressors use journal bearings? I thought of using one for another application and it seems to me like if I just plugged the oil ports on the sump and just filled the bottom sump with a couple courts of full synthetic it would do just fine since the bearings would be submerged in oil all the time. Or do journal style bearings NEED positive oil pressure feed from the engine? Once filled with oil I could turn it by hand for awhile to insure oil is filling the crank galleys and everything, so there's no chance of running the bearings dry until it gets worked in.
