When I was Seabee Navy way back stationed in Port Hueneme (easy to pronounce but doesn't look like it), I recall either Deuces or 5-Tons (I couldn't tell the difference at a glance) starting up with an instantaneous musical whine, like the whine form a pneumatic impact wrench. My guess was it was compressed air used to crank up the engine. It was sweet music, the sound of power.

Anybody know what that was? And if they are air starters, are they available for the M35a2? Anybody know where to get them? ~

Yeah I just wish there was an easy way to find out if the starter itself is a certain SAE # pattern,,, then an air starter could be dropped in( with lots of other modifications to have lots o air)
