A neighoboring fire dept has been allocated some rescue tools thru DRMS at Anchorage. This would be "Jaws of Life" type equipment. Sounds like they are getting a cutter and a spreader (used to slice open a car wreck). Typically something like 35-50lb per piece. Hopefully can to DOD to send some photos of exactly what the gear is (is it worth the effort, what it is exactly, etc).

Trying to figure out how to get boxed up and shipped to Iowa via UPS.

Anyone with bright ideas?

I would contact the site manager at the Anchorage DRMO site (907) [FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica][SIZE=-1]753-0726. The last time I was down there, the guy there was a pleasure to work with and would help out anyone that asked.

If I was closer, I'd offer to go there and take a look at the gear along with getting you any pictures that I could. Too bad it the pickup is at JBER and not Ft. WW.

Maybe there's a member from the Anchorage area that can assist? If it is determined that the department wants to go for it, you may try one of the delivery services in the Anchorage area to box & ship it for you. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. and will keep offer in mind. A lot of surplus thru the system in Alaska that seems to have little competion from other Fire Dept in requesting (harder to inspect/ship/etc).

As far as I know they are still working on how to P/U and ship. Will pass your info along.
