I had an old hitch someone gave me, but it was too wide for the deuce frame. I took an angle grinder and ground the welds where the hangers mounted to the square tube. Once I hammered the welds loose I was able to slide the hangers to the right width for the deuce frame. I then found out the long hangers would not fit inside the frame rails(not bent correctly). If I tried to bend them to fit, I was going to have all kinds of fun! Made a 2 1/2 inch solid spacer so the hanger would fit. Welded the hitch up, drilled holes, and mounted with grade 8 bolts. I keep the hitch up high for ground clearance, with the new drop hitch, I am good to go!
Gee that sounded a lot easier than it was! Thought someone might be able to use this information to make a hitch. Was told by a trailer guy that the hitch came off a ford explorer. Since it is much narrower, and fully welded, I am hoping it is good for 10,000 pounds. I will have a heavy duty one (20,000lbs) made up some day.
The drop plate was 65.00, and pintle ball was 100.00. Plate is rated at 10,000. Pintle at 16,000. Got from a local hitch and trailer dealer.
