Hi Guys,

Anybody have an M4 half track or know where one is? Not an M4A1, but an original M4. I've got a good friend out on the West Coast restoring an M4 and he needs some pics of how the mortar was mounted in the vehicle. The A1 used an elevated mount for the base of the tube and holes in the floor for the front of the bipod pointed legs to fit into. The M4 didn't have the elevated base, but no pictures seem to exist of it........or how the front of the bipod was secured to the floor.....if it was at all. We did find a few pics of the M4 prototype, which used the rectangular base of the mortar inside the vehicle, but no other details. So if anyone could shed some light on this........or let me know where one is to look at and photograph....it would be much appreciated.

thanks,
bob

If someone in MVPA doesn't have it, you may want to look into doing an official request for information to the Army. They have a history section and there is probably manuals for it 'somewhere'. Might take awhile to get an answer but it's an option.

Those that build models must know what they are doing to make it all small.
Maybe they have pictures......
This is from
http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/cyberhobby/chc6361.html
"One minor issue is the mortar base that is the type fitted to the early M4 with limited movement as it was designed for the mortar to be dismounted for firing and the later types had a redesigned base to allow firing from inside the vehicle. This may not be a big point and there are only minor differences between the bases and good references would come in handy."

"On the insides are the crew seats with nicely textured cushions, the rear fuel tanks with the inner M2 type storage boxes along with the two 20 round ammo boxes each side and the two 8 round boxes at the back plus the 56 rounds in the side opening racks for a total of 112 rounds carried in the early model M4."
