Are m101a2's modified m101a1's?

I have a m101a1 that I love, but I noticed a few suspension parts that are badly rusted. Time for a replacement, and I'm thinking of a newer m101a2. My question is, are the m101a2's a newer trailer than say my '67 m101a1 or are the m101a2's just modified m101a1 frames with surge brakes?

So the leaf springs and associated hardware on a M101a2 could date back to the 60's?

I have seen on a few 101a2 trailers that the springs have been updated with an increased capicity.
So they may be different.
A quick TM search will tell all.

Many differerent mixes of parts, on all A1 and A2 trailers, I've even seen the old style lights on a2's and shackles are interchangable too. also they place the new style reforsed bogys on a1 frames.
