My 816 tossed the generator belts yesterday on the way back from the parade in Denver. According to the TM, you have to remove the fan to change the belts, and to remove the fan you have to remove the radiator.

Has anyone removed just the fan or do you have to remove the radiator?

alt belt replacement

Joe,
Did you go out and eyeball that really close? I mean, can't you work the belt around the fan, one blade at a time like normal and put them on that way? I am amazed you would have to pull the fan off.
Is it a matter of the fan blades are that close to the fan shroud? If so, just put one little bend in the shroud where you fit in the belt and turn the fan blades to that area as you feed the belt in. That thing takes 3 belts on the alternator alone, doesn't it?
If I can be of any help, I will gladly advise Jay to go over and help you. : )

LOL... there are two on the alternator, two on the fan, two on the power steering and one for the water pump. Glad to hear that they fit around the fan because I wasn't looking forward to yanking the radiator.

Joe
