Cannon Plug?

What does the plug under the ash tray do/did? Someone told me it was called a cannon plug but wasn't sure what it was used for. Also what is it wired to?

it is the plug for the system the militayr uses to diagnostic check the system, i beleive it is the ste/ice plug.

So is it like a pre-OBD1 thing? Any use now?

kinda its for the mil specific diagnostic system, its usefull if you have a ste/ice set up to read it but if you dont want it around just un bolt it and tuck it up under the dash
