i added a second springer seat to my deuce and am planning on welding in loops to attach my child's car seat to using the latch system support straps. i was going to just go off of measurments from my other vehicles, but was wondering if anyone has done this before and may have pics

and before i get a bunch of bad reasons for small kids in a deuce, this would just before emergency use only and maybe parades and stuff like that

Me and my wife have talked about making some form of latch system in ours but the seat belt works fine on the bench. I would think of bolting rings to the seat frame but i doubt you could attatch anything to the springer that could take that kind of lateral force a crash would make. The belts are attached to the cab frame for a reason.

On a side note, my 2 year old has done hundreds of miles in my deuce and absolutly loves it. The trick is really good hearing protection and a muffler on the deuce. You should make it a normal thing.

The belts for a springer seat DO NOT mount to the cab frame. They mount to the SEAT. And then there is another short belt from the seat mount to the cab frame. If you mount the belt stright to the frame, as the seat moves up and down the belt will losen and tighten. If you hit a big bump/pot hole the seat could move to far and the belt could tighten too much and cause injury. Alot of springer seat have the wrong belt on them.

As for the mounts for the car seat. All I can say is if YOU think they will be strong enough, make them stronger. Remember they are not there to hold the seat evrey day. They are for the CRASH. (That we all hope never happens) Remember the crash forces are 10-50 times what the every day load is.

I run a booster seat in the A3 for my 6 year old all the time but the belt setup is different and the passenger seat area doesn't move... If you had the stock passenger seat instead of the spring unit I'd just find an A3 passenger seatbelt rig.

My seat belts are attached to the frame of the truck with a flexible piece in between. I just don't think the springer is capable of supporting that kind of lateral force that a crash will make.

just an update, i finally got the latch system hoops welded in to the springer seat and put the car seat in and it is solid as a rock. I went probably three times stronger than i thought would be sufficient from others advice. this will be mostly for parades and the like and it will be nice taking the kids with. I am also adding my muffler this weekend to make it more tolerable for them. Pics coming soon.

where's your pics Adam?
I thought about retrofitting my daily driver (built in 1st half of 2002) to have LATCHes, but chickened out when I considered what would happen if my work failed. My daily driver is capable of higher speeds than my duece, hence higher impact forces...
