Change M1010 to std CUCV wireing?

I bought a M 1010 chassis that had been converted by a fire department to a brush truck. They put a lot into this, with duel wheel conversion and hd springs, ideal for a dump body I have. They seem to have had DUVAC problems, with evidence of battery meltdown and fried & cut wires. They added an aftermarket alternator with no identifying marks. Was not charging, I happened to try headlights, it started to charge, but DUVAC started to smoke and ooze. This thing is so messed with, I would like to convert to standard CUCV harness. Has anyone done this? Will the harness match firewall plug? Know where to get clean engine harness? I already have necessary alt mounts. Thanks.

Your best bet is going to be to rewire the cab itself along with the engine harness. While the plugs will physically hook together, the wiring in the cab is sufficiently different to make the swap problematic. The cab wiring isn't too hard, I've done it twice now to remove 'post Army' modifications to the wiring and it was easier than trying to splice wires and trace down residual problems.

You can use either a 1008/1028 truck or 1009 blazer harness, they're both the same. As far as where to get one, I would contact people in the classifieds on this board who are parting out CUCVs as the dash harness typically isn't a high demand item, the engine harnesses are a little harder to come by, but not impossible to find. Rusty northern trucks are good donor candidates too.

To get your dually front hubs, you should put an ad in Craigslist as want to trade single hubs for dually front hubs for people who are building off roaders. The single wheel hubs are desireable to change dually fronts over and you should be able to swap straight across for them.

Hi Joe, Thanks for the advice. I have a rusty northern parts truck. a 1008 I got 3rd hand. Cab harness is ok. will use that. Engine harness cut & 12v ed by a former owner, so hopefully can find better one. Probably will run single wheels on front, as this will be a local work truck.

I'd swap the front hubs anyway because I like only having to keep one spare around, but that's a personal preference.

If you're parting a truck out, I'm looking for the rifle mounts behind the front seat for my 1008, the Indian reservation that had the truck after the Army removed both of the upper mounts and my parts truck only has the pass side one.

PM me if you can help.

Later,
Joe
