Try not to roll your eyes when I ask this quetion....I have never owned a diesel until now, so I'm still getting used to the noises, the smoke, etc etc etc..
When the m1009 is at idle, I can hear what sounds like chirping noises coming from under the hood. When I give it a little bit of gas, the noise dies out. What noises are normal for these motors (6.2)?

One of my new old CUCVs was making a fairly soft chirp/squeak at idle, and it turned out to have a missing vacuum plug. The sound was coming from there, and went away when I plugged the fitting. Your problem is more likely to be a belt or bearing, but I figured I'd throw this out there.

May the 73Y2 be with you!
