Cleaning inj pump screen...

Anyone know the procedure for removing and cleaning the injection pump inlet and outlet screens with the pump in the truck?
I'm thinking mine are plugged as I've had a cloud if white following me and now it won't start. Antifreeze stays up, so that's not the white smoke cause. Also, my fuel pressure has gone up to 10 psi from six prior to this. Something is blocking fuel flow.

What about the rubber in the head of the injection pump? I never seen a screen in the pump. And the glass ball is the only thing I see in the return side. I could be wrong. Entirely possible. but I never heard of it before.

I'm 95% sure there is a screen in the intake.

Please post some pictures of the carnage if you have time. Curious how you will like the Conestoga Diesel pump.

No screen in any intake that I seen. Other then a few that different unit put a scrap piece of chicken wire across the top. I just take that and toss it. Not needed. The holes in the wire were that big a 5/16" nut could have fell right in. ????

I just looked at the the Stanadyne exploded diagram. Now I'm 100% certain there is a screen on the intake / input of the pump, not chicken wire on the intake manifold. It is a cone shaped screen.

I never took one apart. I would wonder how anything would get that far after being strained and filtered. Is that an easy piece to get off? Just asking. That should be clean fuel reaching that point and NOT a common maintenance item. Can you access it with the intake and all the delivery lines attached? What is the recommended service life of the screen?

I doubt you could remove it with the manifold & lines on. It does unscrew, but trying to get a wrench on the two flats with it together would be impossible. You would probably need a special socket to try and get it off with the lines on it. I'm pretty sure it is just a last ditch effort by Stanadyne to keep junk out of the pump. I don't think there is a recommendation for service interval. I also don't see how it could ever get dirty, unless there was something funky going on like fuel hoses falling apart, or a totally screwed up fuel filter.

That appears to be the interior components of the pump coming apart. I have seen this before when it gets worn and looses lubricity with the LS diesel fuel. Where you able to access the screen. I was inquisitive about it
