Want to join me in supporting a good cause? I'm raising money for 22Kill and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. I've included information about 22Kill below.
A&H Recon Shop and Granite State Iron Calvary have been very involved in public events, parades and fundraisers that support and recognize our Veterans. Our groups consist of Veterans from almost every branch of the armed services and many first responders. In an effort to combat the alarming rate of Veteran and first responder suicides, GSIC and A&H Recon are partnering with 22Kill.
22Kill is a movement started by Honor Courage Commitment Inc. (an organization that aids in the transition from military leadership to economic leadership roles). In 2013 a staggering statistic was released, we are losing our Veteran and first responder Brothers and Sisters at an average rate of 22 per day to suicide. These suicides have been attributed to PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). Those who chose to end their lives because of these conditions have endured horrors and traumas that nobody should have to face. Sadly, many of these individuals never seek help and many times feel isolated and lost after returning home or transitioning back to civilian life. 22Kill seeks to raise awareness of this and other statistics regarding PTSD in an effort to bring the community together and find our Brothers and Sisters the support and assistance they so desperately need.
A&H Recon Shop (a heavy truck shop that specializes in the repair, restoration and modification of former Military Vehicles) and Granite State Iron Cavalry (a New England based Military Vehicle collector group) will be organizing a multi day “Convoy” to raise awareness and seek donations for the 22Kill cause. This Convoy will consist of no less than 10 former Military vehicles that have been restored and maintained by their dedicated owners. The high visibility Convoy will travel through 6 States down I-84 from New Hampshire to Pennsylvania. The destination for the convoy is the 2018 MTA Military Vehicle Rally at the Sussex Fairgrounds in New Jersey on April 20-22 (one of the largest gatherings of privately owned military vehicles in the Northeast). Once there, our dedicated members will be handing out literature and spreading the word about the 22Kill cause and what can be done to assist with fundraising. Matt Handley (owner of A&H Recon shop) will also be speaking about the Convoy, 22Kill, and other Veterans organizations during a Q&A session about vehicle ownership and maintenance.
The private ownership of Military Vehicles is a hobby that has grown exponentially in the past 30 years. There are THOUSANDS of Veteran and active-duty service members who make up this unique brotherhood and who have served our nation in all branches of the Military. It is a hobby that has helped many returning service members cope with daily life by repairing, restoring and displaying these Iron Veterans and helping to educate younger generations about their history and combat roles.
Through the efforts of our members as well as visibility through social media, GSIC and A&H Recon hope to raise a minimum of $2,500 in donations in the weeks leading up to the event. We will also be seeking sponsorships from local businesses who are willing to help support the Convoy and donate directly to the 22Kill Convoy fundraiser. The convoy will also be seeking the assistance of State and local police departments to escort our vehicles when possible and in doing so provide additional visibility for the cause.
All volunteer participants cover their own transportation and travel expenses. Two convoys will be departing New Hampshire and Cape Cod on April 19th arriving in Stafford Springs, CT for an overnight stay. On April 20th there will be three additional Military trucks arriving to join the convoy. From Stafford Springs, CT the convoy will continue to Military Transport Association (MTA) military vehicle show at Sussex County Fairgrounds Augusta, NJ.
