I'm looking to upgrade axles on my M1009 to dana 60's out of a M1008. Just wondering how driving around town and on the interstate is with the 4:56 gears. I want the beefier axles but I still want to be able to run it 60-70mph if I want. Would like to hear from you guys that either have done this or are driving the trucks. Thanks!

Can't have your cake and eat it too. You'll be limited to 55mph unless you put taller tires on or an OD transmission in.

That's just NOT TRUE.

When I run my M1028A2 at OR BELOW 60 mph, I get 15 mpg.

When I run my M1028A2 AT 65 MPH, I get 10 mpg.

I did this for three days last year when I drove it from PA to CO...

plug in any numbers you want - but with 4.56 gears and 16 tires, you can go 65 mph SAFELY and stay below the 3500 redline

though the more I read about the 6.2L, the more I think that redline was for all the guys who drove them in the military - not the actual limit of this venerable engine - I have read several articles and even posted most of them here on SS
