I just sold my m1008...loved it, would like to get another one. But I have this dilemma of should I get a CUCV II if they are even available. I saw one on ebay from california I think...about the end of april 09...it was real nice low miles minty..it went for around 5500 then. Any suggestions, comments, rants!?

Yes and no... the CUCVII and CUCVIII were based on the later 89-01 and Silverado body style trucks.

They have blackout lights, a 6.5L turbodiesel (Duramax in the latest trucks) and 24V systems like a CUCV, but have more creature comforts like AC and a basic stereo.

The AF and Navy purchased several of each, I don't know if the Army did or not as I have never seen any.

You can look up the CUCV on Wiki...

Depends on if you want a solid front axle or not. I prefer the square body Chevy myself. Very easy to swap in different motors, parts and cheap and plentiful, plus they're good lookin trucks :-D

They are around, but Ive rarely seen them for sale.

most are either still in use, OR totally trashed or snatched up by other agencies instead of auction ( VFD's, SO, Police etc)

I'll post up a picture of a CUCVII pickup beign used as an ammo truck later.

I snapped this shot the other day, and yes it was being driven by US Soldiers.
had mil marker lights wedged into the tailights and love the redneck engineering for the AC unit.

there are a lot of LEASED vehicles being utilized in the cirrent conflicts so that takes the place of the need for CUCV type vehicles, a lot of 1009, 1008s are being chewed up in Iraq and other places as NTV ( Non Tactical vehicles)
so the motor SGT is driving it on base for errands VS off the FOB on missions, where some armor is preffered!
shoot, even some armored hummers don't ever make it outside the wire.

That's NOT a CUCV-II. That's just 89-91 Chevy Crewcab of the older body style that the military must still own. The CUCV-II was of the newer 88-99 IFS body style trucks.

Unless I misread that and you are still going to be putting up pictures of a different truck, an actual CUCV-II?

****, Toyota's IFS is actually durable. GM's IFS is just enough to keep the truck moving while it's under warranty. Even light offroading beats it up.

I saw one on I-81 being towed down the road on a flatbed, looked in good shape. They will get out someday, but it might be a few more years before they say "get rid of them all". Heck, the CUCV series 1 is still coming out surplus 25 years after they were accepted, so I wouldn't hold my breath on the IIs.
