The CUCV-II 1 ton pickups do not come with a receiver hitch.
They also use the M1008 style bumper. GM made some modified brackets to mount the bumpers to the wider frame of the newer style trucks.
The Crewcabs use the newer style bumpers and come from the factory with a receiver hitch. I had Stonepicker1 send me the part number and I ordered one off of the web.
I went to install it and it would not work with the M1008 bumper without major modification. I need to pull a trailer so I removed the bumper and installed the hitch. Always bugged me that the bumper wasn't installed.
Fast forward a couple of months and I wanted to see what it would take to make it all work.
Comparing different style hitches I discovered there are a couple of ways the companies build them. The mounting lips are either made to mount from the outside going in or the inside going out.
So I ordered a Class 4 CURT C14081 to see if it would work.
I checked the mounting of the new hitch with the GM bumper mounting hardware. The hitch was just a hair too wide to mount flush. So I took out my grinder and removed 1/16" from both sides. Now it would sit flush.
Reinstalled the bumper, Lifted the hitch into place and buttoned it up.
There is an issue of the very front mounting tabs. Because of the thickness of the bumper mounting hardware, the front tab does not mount flush. A couple of large washers for spacers took care of that.
Reinstalled the spare. There is plenty of clearance. Even a 265/75R16 should fit.
