EX ARMY MECHANIC!!! Worked on mostly HMMWV, M35A2, M923 and a few CUCV, 10 lvl (unit maint.) and a little 20 & 30 lvl (support).

Just purchased a 86 CUCV w/ 125,xxx miles, converted to 12v (will prob. go back to the 24v) some small issues but all there. Just put a new flexplate in it, it was missing teeth and wouldn't start. Fired right up after a couple of tries, been sitting since March of this year. full PMCS has been done, few class II leaks but for the most part pretty fair, see way worse!!! This is the problem, starts easy no problem when the engine is cold (cold start circuit is not working, pretty sure its the solenoid but could be the controller haven't had the time to check yet, brand new gp's). When the engine gets warm 170+ degrees it will not re-fire, no smoke, nothing. Thinking injector pump, has good fuel pressure at the fuel pump. Ive seen HMMWV injector pumps go out but not very often, haven't had the time to go through the manual and perform all the checks. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts about my theory? Does anyone have the National Stock Number for the rebuild kit?

More often than not, its pump related. Next outing take some cold water along. If the problem replicates itself, dump the water on the IP. If it fires up in short order, shop for a rebuilder.

Next time it won't start when warm, try pouring some water on the IP. If it starts, your IP is going bad.

While there are other reasons it won't start when warm, this is a fairly common symptom of a failing IP.

Edit- old "quick draw Kenny" beat me to it.
