today i posted in two threads that where deleted with no explanation why the threads where deleted. i thought mods had to email people on why its being deleted

You can delete your own threads.

As Frodo said, the OP can delete their original post, and that will delete the whole thread. We(Mods/Admin) don't "control" that. and it does not send you a message.
When Mods/Admin do delete a thread or post, we have a choice to send an explanation. We don't always do that, depending on the situation. An explanation is a "courtesy", not a requirement.
From the rules, Moderators may delete any post in violation of the above policies with or without notice.
If you are truly baffled, as to why something was deleted, you can always PM your favorite Moderator or Administrator.
