deuce transmission oil

What is the best transmission fluid to run in the deuce transmission I was speaking to a local truck mechanic and he told me straight 50 was the best to use. Any thoughts......

GL1 spec'd. 80/90.

I use mobil 1 syn in my trans as it has the MT1 spec so it's compatible.

napa carries the GL1 in 5Gal buckets.

There have been many lengthy posts on this.Here is one of them that has some good info, http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index....8&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=napa+mt1 There are several personal choices but the Gov spec is for GL-1. You can get it at NAPA. Whatever you choose, be sure it is MT-1 "yellow metal safe".(ie. non corrosive to bronze or brass alloys)

Thanks Doghead. There have been alot of personal choices in the posts I searched and my head slowly starts to spin. I am getting ready to change my fluids out and just want to be sure. Tanks again

Be careful with Synthetics.I have read a few post of trans burning up cause of Synthetic use."TOO" slippery.Doesn't climb the gears and lubricate the upper parts.
