Deuce winch issue

New member
Hello guys,

I am trying to remove the LH case from my winch but no luck...
I read the TM 9-2320-209-34-2-3 and there is nothing special to remove the case.
In the winch the drag brake handle was bent and is almost touching the upper cover...Also it moves a little...

Any ideas ?

Thank you,
jim

LH......? You mean the gear case on the driver's side, or the clutch housing, on the pass. side (= your left when standing in front of the truck and reading the dataplates)...?

Drag brake handle, what is that? There is a small handle, for the drum lock and a lever for the clutch (which could be bent like you describe); on the clutch housing side.

I suspect that it was that end you wanted to remove, so see diagram below: in order to come off with no effort, clutch #37 must slide freely on shaft #33 and keys #32. If not, then rust may be the cause.
Remove fill and drain plugs and take a look inside using a small flashlight.

Finally I return the winch to the yard and take another that is never used !
Altough inside the brake housing was full of black sludge!
I am trying to find out the way to remove the brake cylinder as TM say just remove it without any information !!!

Rgds,
Jim

You mean pulling that rusty brake drum off the (rusty)shaft end(?)
Now, if I read well your signature...that shouldn't be a problem at all; so I was waiting for your "found the way!" post... :p

It is not a press fit, just rust that keeps it stuck on.

Here some old tricks (in case it didn't fall off yet): plenty of oil; heat/cool, repeatedly; carefully hit it while pulling out (hook through 1 of 4 windows) or use a pull hammer; or fabricate a simple screw puller, using two 12mm bolts with heads trimmed to act as hooks.

Patience; it will come off!:)

Thanks for the nice tips but this one is really fixed to the shaft !
Usually a little heat and some Kroil do the trick but this one is really tight...
I also use my chain inside the 4 windows to pull it out but no luck also...
