Did GEP 6.5 engines use gaskets for timing cover?

I've looked everywhere and it seems that the GEP manufactured engines didn't use gaskets for oil pans and timing chain covers, along with valve covers. Is it safe to say I can use high quality RTV just like the factory did? I've always used Permatex the right stuff 90 minute gasket maker on newer GM products that don't use gaskets.

RTV seems the way to go with all non-critical sealing surfaces (I mean non-critical to be things not carrying high pressure and whatnot)

Right Stuff in the aerosol can makes putting it together a breeze.

Paper gaskets are history... Use RTV only on all surfaces, except in between the aluminum front cover and engine block, where it takes an anaerobic sealant, like Loctite 518.
I found some HMMWV 6.5's also had the water pump and its backing plate sealed with #518, even if that is not the typical, recommended application.

Only the water pump and backing plate get a gasket…they both come in the kit.
Also, replace your front crank seal before installing the Harmonic balancer.

How did you get to harmonic balancer seal back in. I'm going to try to take it to my shop and use my press I can't get it in with a rubber mallet.

Go buy the appropriate size PVC pipe at Home depot and cut the proper length to use as a seal installer…

Lucky me! I own a irrigation company for 29 years here in Indiana. I have stacks of PVC!
