Trying to get a little education on diesel lift pumps...

What is the relationship between GPH and PSI? (now, I know what the two are, just trying to determine how they interact with each other.) Can one compensate for a lower GPH with higher PSI?

What effect does either higher or lower PSI have?

Why would one want/need a higher PSI vs lower PSI?

If one replaces, say a 30 PSI pump with a ~10 PSI pump, what effect might that have on the system? (assuming that the GPH of the replacement pump is at least equal to the GPH of the older pump)

Is the PSI requirement for military engines affected by the fact that the engine has to accept so many different fuels?
