Diesel --- Summer Blend Versus Winter Blend

I bought fuel yesterday for the first time since January.

I'd driven approx 40 miles before stopping for fuel and upon starting back out on the road I immediately noticed a marked difference in performace.

Before buying fuel I'd been running along at around 2,200 RPM --- a nice conservative cruise speed but after fueling I happened to look down and notice I was running @2,500. There was a marked difference in the way the truck performed after fueling. I should note that my fuel compensator has been by-passed.

The fuel bought back in December, being a winter blend probably contained at least 50% number-one diesel. Wow --- what a difference 100% number-two diesel makes.

I'm glad I didn't check my mileage with the winter blend as I think it would have been depressing.

I can understand how a lower-energy fuel can reduce engine power, but speed at a given engine RPM won't change.
I guess you mean it seemed to take longer to get up to speed?

Yes --- speed at a given RPM doesn't change.

I wasn't talking about speed. What I was trying to say was that I don't have to put my foot in it as hard to get the same RPM/speed.
