Dodge rear leaf spring mounts, with holes cut into them?

Hello all, I’m rebuilding an entire 1952 dodge m37 and I was working on my frame when I noticed these holes that are cut into the tops of the rear leave spring mounts and I was wondering what there for. It looks like there crudely cut into the mount so I can’t tell if it’s original or not. And I’ve only seen pictures of newer frames and they don’t have this hole. This is my best picture. Does anyone know why it has this hole

I'm quite certain those openings are original.

My 1954 has the same openings in the mounts, as you can see in the photo below. I can't recall if those mounts are castings or forgings (I'd have take another look at them to refresh my memory), but the openings appear to have been a feature of the casting or forging process, and there would not have been any need to clean up the openings to make them pretty.

Stock spring mounts. No need to worry 'bout it, they were made that way on all G-741 chassis trucks.
