Drum Seal Question

I am reassembling my front winch and have a question about the drum seal at the gearcase. The TM says the seal mounts to the gearcase but mine is installed on the gearcase side of the drum. Am I missing something?

No..... I don't see anything wrong with what you have.
The (driver side) gear case has a protruding hub, for the seal you pictured to work on.
If the TM says any different it is a mistake.
