Hey guys, has anyone removed the straight drive cooling fan on their 5 ton? I was thinking about a clutch fan or maybe an electric cooling fan. The straight drive fans are very noisy and a drain on horsepower.

You can swap over to a m939 series setup. It's not cheap though as the fan clutches often sell for $1000 for new ones. Sometimes that high for used ones.

I had the whole setup for sale awhile back. I am sure some trimming of the fan shroud would be needed.

Fun numbers just FYI: Modern fans like a 2008 Freightliner Cascadia with DD15 take 45 horsepower to operate (dyno tested).
