Engine speed sensor?

I know someone will chime in and say go to TM but I am just seeking a simple answer. What is the speed sensor on the tach drive cable at the IP on a nhc250 for? My truck has it but my friends truck is missing it but has the electrical lead #995. I think it is for trans shifting.

Goes to the "Diagnostic" connector and should have nothing to do with normal operation of the vehicle.

That diagram is too complicated. I'm going to rip out all the wiring and install a 12v Painless wiring harness.

On an a2 truck it is used by the ctis computer for road speed and the overspeed light

What could be more simple that RTM?
