Extra Linkage on Back of Transmission?

So my truck has the transfer case PTO, so I guess it wasn't built as a cargo truck.

I do have the air shift transfer case though.

Now I see there is linkage from the rod that sticks out at the back of the transmission and goes down and attaches back to the transmission. Nothing goes anywhere else.

I can't tell if anything actually goes back into the transmission at the bottom, or it's just a bracket. Remnents of a sprague transfer case at one time?

Would it hurt to remove all this stuff that doesn't do anything?

It looks like the PTO system is complete, just doesn't run anything. There's a big castle nut on the end of a shaft, that I'm assuming turns when the PTO is engaged. Half afraid to mess with it. Looks like the rod and spring for the governor still go to the IP.

Extra Linkage on Transmission?

Still getting to know my truck a bit. I discovered that I have the transfer case PTO, so my truck didn't start off as a cargo truck.

I do have the air activated transfer.

Now I see extra linkage on the transmission. The little rod that sticks out the back at the top cover is connected to linkage that goes down and back into the transmission. There's nothing going anywhere else, just from the tranny to the tranny.

That linkage is in fact remnants from a sprag transfer case. Take it off and save it for someone that may need it or throw it away. If you don't want the transfer case pto I may be interested.

If I remove the linkage from the tranny, do I need a block off plate or something? Jeepsinker, if I do pull the PTO off, you're welcome to it.

Undo the big bolt and pin at the top to remove. Leave the cover in place on the tranny.

No block off plate is needed. You will notice that the arm bolts onto a shaft that comes out of the backside of the topcover on the transmission. Simply unbolt it from the shaft and leave the shaft intact. Remove everything else ( don't remove the bearing cover on the back of the transmission of course.
