Field Battry Test???

Is there a quick - down and dirty test for batteries. I run up on piles of batteries pulled out of vehicles all the time is there a quick way of seeing if they are salavagable?

Get a $20 carbon pile load tester from Harbor Freight. The battery still needs to be charged to check it. My new battery charger checks for shorted and dead cells when it charges. Bad batteries are caught by the charger. It also has a desulfate function. The load tester will check for week batteries.
