Thinking about building a flatbed for my 5 ton. I need to haul 20' sections of pipe with it and also need it to be 8' wide. I am considering an 18' length. Do you guys think the extra 4' length will lighten the front end too much when loaded? I may haul up to 7-8 thousand pounds of pipe.

It depends on where your trunion for the axles is. If its close to center of the load you may be ok. If its off by feet, I'd say no way.

No. You will be fine. I have a 16ft LMTV bed sitting in hattiesburg that is a flatbed. Remove your spare tire carrier and itll be flush with the rear of the truck or let it overhang. 7 benji's and its yours.
