Florida DMV and Temporary Tag

I called the local tag office to ask about a temporary tag so I can pick up my truck next week. The answer I got was I need the title to get the temp tag. I have searched and found enough on the subject to realize others here have gotten a Florida temporary tag to retrieve vehicles.

I looked up the statute and it looks like issuing a temp tag is at the discretion of the tag office if all of the normal requirements aren’t met. Does anybody that has done this know what steps were taken by the tag office personel? One of the posts said the tag office called Tallahassee for direction and poster walked out with the tag.

I'm going to go to a tag office myself and it will be helpful to be able to tell them what they are looking for.

I have had some luck with this in Tampa. By some luck, I mean that they have done it on occasions and not on others. The manager there authorized it using the wording about "other reasons" wording in the state statute.

It sounds like I might not be getting a temporary tag. Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to give the temp tag a try bubba. I even printed out the Fl. Statute and highlighted the part that I think is pertinent. I'm not worried about driving it back without the tag. I'll have all the paper work and insurance plus my friend will be following me in my truck.

I'm picking up a M35A2 from Ft. Jackson Phil.

I went to the Winter Park tag office today and was told no. The manager said I didn't have enough documentation? I had my paid in full invoice and print of the auction showing the sale and lot numbers and truck serial number.

She wanted the form the government provides to get a title. I tried explaining I couldn't get apply for that until I took delivery. I even showed her the statute. Oh well.

If you have had success getting a temporary tag because the local tag office called somebody in Tallahassee, get the name of that person in Tallahassee. In the future we can provide that information to the tag office manager and hopefully get around the BS.

I got mine from Ft Jackson last year, and its a good strong runner. Scrapman also recovered a truck or two from there. Tim @ Ft Jackson is alright, although some arm twisting was needed today to get him to let me inflate the tires in a 5 ton trailer I was picking up. I needed to use an elec. outlet for my compressor. Also, incase you didn't know, at Ft Jackson you must have your deuce towed or hauled off post (cannot be driven off). This was due to an incident there with a deuce hitting a DRMO building.

Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks bassetdeuce, I know the story at Ft. Jackson. I'm planning to have jwaller tow it off for me. I've talked to Tim a couple of times on the phone and he sounds OK. I don't think I'll have any problems.

I agree cessnatwin, it's best when somebody wants to help you; especially at the DMV.

Phill2968, if I was closer to Lakeland I would do that. I'm not going to worry about it. The only good thing about this little experience is I didn't have to stand in line for an hour before they told me no.

Tow 4 call me you HAVE to go through the states to get one time non expiring plates, you will save a small fortune, do all the title over the phone and get everything quick in the mail. They will not do it at the local tag office it has to go to the capitol.

I've read the posts on doing the permanent tag by devilman96. I'll do that once I have the paper work from GL.

Is that what you are talking about cesnnatwin?
