Picked up a M1008A1 at Ft. Hood

Once home found bend driveshaft from forklift, slight but bent
(listing and pics didn't show it)
Tcase skidplate bent into case. No damage

Listing said fluids drained, but...........
Fuel tank full
Diffs full
P/S full
Trans full
All fresh and crystal clear.
Engine and Tcase empty

My point is, fuel cap was loose and was leaking fuel everywhere before we noticed it. We were on other side at the time.
Most of us know what that means on post if they see it.

Check trucks close before you leave lot

I didn't and learned a expensive lesson.

GL offered the bent driveshaft option for years before they lost the contract, sometimes they would even throw in a bonus of a busted t-case. I guess GP is now also offering the bent driveshaft option.

All joking aside, I have seen 100s of CUCVs sold through GL in years past. I might have seen a handful that didn't have a bent driveshaft. Buying a CUCV, a straight driveshaft was kind of rare.

I've bought two 5 tons from GL
Both much better in person that listed.

This is my first from GP
Worse in person than listed and pics.
I can live with that since it's a roll of the dice anyway.

I'm just upset at myself for not looking and assuming.
.......and not knowing enough about these to look.

I know now

Spilled fuel on an Army Post means EPA procedures kick in if it's over a certain amount.

Not sure of that amount, but I didn't want to stick around to find out.

I think we lost maybe 2 or 3 gallons before it was noticed. Truck was on trailer and at the right angle to spill fuel.

I do know that they scream bloody murder if jet fuel is spilled.

That's what I meant

Picked up my M35A2 and the battery box supports were bent, and it had a big crease in the oil pan all from a forklift.

That's all the army uses is jet fuel , JP-8 last I knew. The EPA has it out big time for the military.

I have bought two pickups with bent shafts. I was picking up other items At Great Lakes one time behind a pickup when the forklift operator used a forklift to move it. I saw the drive shaft bend and because I had previous bad experience with that proceeded to chew him out for it. He looked at me like I just grew two heads! I hope anyway he thought better in the future.

Not to start an argument......

Doubt it. I have 20 trucks to unload. I have to get off the forklift, climb up on a trailer, see if the trucks will start---it won't, climb off the trailer, get on the forklift and lift it off anyway. OR I can just lift it off the trailer.

I hate it just as much as everyone else but you will not find the worlds best forklift operators at GL/GP. It's the nature of the beast.

You are correct.
My background is Aviation, not trucks.
Was just relating what I knew and saw first hand.

EPA can't stand the Military

I picked up a "fluids drained" truck out of Ft Hood and ended up driving it 1000 miles home. All fluids were new and full. Batteries were discharged.

GL was known for forklifting vehicles and damaging them. GP has now developed the same practices. In Ft Riley they're using a loader with a custom hook device to move trucks around. When carefully used it causes moderate damage to bumpers on the front and creases the beds and tailgates on the back. When carelessly used it breaks the hood mounts up front and frequently crushes the hoods. There are many many trucks there with identical damage caused from it . (I had wondered why the damage was identical until I saw their device in use.). This is stupid and wasteful if it happens before the auction and the damage is shown in the pics so you know what you're getting. If the damage is inflicted after the sale it becomes unethical and problematic....(their guarantee has a $750 deductible).

You are correct 98G, most of my trucks from Riley have been damaged in that way and GP has just applied their deductible to the damages to zero out any reparations. Glad you got a good "non-runner" there haha!

I had someone from GP contact me via PM and asked the item number.

Said he would look into it.

Haven't heard back
