Fuel gauge issues

My gauge sometimes works and sometimes it does not. I tested the gauge and it goes go back and forth. checked grounds and bypasses the wire going to the gauge. I have a half tank of fuel and it reading empty. So I guess its the sending unit.

So is there anything else to check besides buying a new sending unit?

Mine did the same as yours. I found that the ground wire from the sending unit was broke. Look on top of your fuel tank and check all the wires out.
