Fuel Pump pops fuse

My Deuce has a fuel pump issue. I keep popping fuses, if I bypass the fuse it smokes the wires within about 1/4 second. I am getting 24 volts to the pump. When I measure resistance I am getting 4.6 ohms resistance between the feed wire and the cage the pump sits in. I am assuming that there is an internal short in my pump. Although it pumps very well just overheats the wires. So now I am stuck with a dilemma. Those of you running the external pump from summit, how does it work? Those that advocate putting the stock pump style back in tell me why. I have already modded a bunch of stuff on the Deuce so keeping it original isn't really necessary. But the best bang for the buck is. Thanks.

It's more than likely a short in the pump, I had the same problem. I went to e-*** and bought a replacement for $50.00. The guy is still selling them and it fixed the problem. Hope that helps, different fuel pumps have been discussed numerous times on here.

Thanks for the info about E-bay. I took the whole thing apart today and cleaned it all in the parts washer. Put it all back together with a new fuse and it's working again. Not sure for how long so I'll go ahead and order one from the guy on E-bay. Thanks again for the info.
